A letter from Joan of Constantinople, Countess of Flanders (1223, December 18)

Translated letter:

I Joan, countess of Flanders and Hainaut, make known to all who will view the present letters, that I approve the assent of the pledge of tithe from Bekescot, which my beloved relative lady M. of Nivelles pledged to the abbey of Merck-Saint-Liévin, which pledge was made through the lady countess of Guines, her liege lady. Done at Ghent in the year of the Lord 1223, Tuesday before the (feast of) Thomas the apostle.(1)

Ego Johanna, Flandrie et Hainonie comitissa, notum facio omnibus presentes litteras inspecturis, quod ego approbo laudamentum invagiationis decime de bekescot, quam invagiavit dilecta consanguinea mea M. domina de Nivella abbacie de Merkem, que invagiatio facta fuit per dominam comitissam de Ghines, dominam feodi. Actum Gandavi anno Domini millesimo CCoXXo tercio, feria tercia ante Thome Apostoli.
