A letter from Margaret

Translated letter:

We, Margaret, countess of Flanders and Hainaut, make known to all who will see the present letters that of the eight thousand Flanders pounds which our beloved municipal officials and community of the city of Ghent gave us for the redeeming of our dearest son Guy, count of Flanders, from imprisonment by the count of Holland,  we hold as paid and quit the said officials and community of them by the witness of the present letters.  I and Guy, said count of Flanders, quit said officials and community of the said sum of money.

Dated in the 1257th year of the lord, on the morrow of Candleman/Feast of the Presentation.

Nos Margareta Flandrie et Haynonie comitissa notum facimus universis presentes litteras inspecturis quod de octo milibus librarum Flandrensium quas dilecti nostri scabini et communitas ville Gandensis nobis dederunt pro redemptione karissimi filii nostri Guidonis comitis Flandrie a prisonia comitis Hollandie, nos habemus pro pagatis, et de eis quittamus scabinos et communitatem predictos presentium testimonio litterarum.  Ego et Guido comes Flandrie predictus quitto dictos scabinos et communitatem de summa pecunie supradicta.                 

Datum anno Domini M° CC° L° septimo, in crastino Brandonum.

The countess records the end of the debt incurred by the city of Ghent to help pay  the ransom of her son Guy from Holland.
