A letter from Gaucher of Nanteuil

Translated letter:

To his dearest lady Blanche, illustrious countess palatine of Champagne, and his dearest lord, her son, count Thibaut, Gaucher of Nanteuil, greetings and ready service with honor.  You should know and all should know who will see the present letters, that I render to you the fortified home of Saint-Jean, which is your sworn fief, with all its appurtenances, which you gave me there and with the fief which I hold there from you, without a pact/payment and without any opposition.  In witness of which thing I had the present letters made, protected by my seal.  In the 1219th year of grace, in the month of October.

Original letter:

Karissime domine sue B(lanche) illustri comitisse Campanie palatine, ac karissimo domino suo Th(eobaldo) comite, nato ejus, Galcherus de Nantolio salutem, et paratum servicium cum honore. Sciatis et sciant omnes qui presentes litteras viderint, quod domum fortem de Sancto Johanne, que est vestra jurabilis cum omnibus appendiciis suis, que mihi ibidem dedistis, et cum feodo quod ibidem de vobis teneo, vobis reddo sine omni pacto et sine omne contradictione. In cujus rei testimonium presentes litteras feci fieri sigillo meo munitas. Actum anno gratie M CC nonodecimo, mense octobri.

Historical context:

Gaucher of Nanteuil gives back the fief he held from the countess, which Evergates identifies as Saint-Jean-sur-Tourbe.
