A confirmation of immunities

Translated letter:

In the name of the father and son and holy spirit, amen.  I Boleslaw, by divine grace duke of Sudomiria, with my mother lady Gremislava, deciding it is glorious to begin my daily actions from him and to end in him who is the beginning and end, who is the beginning without beginning and judges the ends of the earth; thinking also that the excellence of my princely name ought to compel this, to comfort those lovers of divine service that persevere in the praise of god without complaint by the sustenance of our generosity, particularly those whose devotion of labor keeps watch in divine service for others; therefore the whole community of all the faithful of Christ should know how we, with our beloved mother lady G[remislava], incited by the hope of divine remuneration, also at the intervention of the venerable spiritual father lord Lutfrid, abbot of our monastery Tyniec, induced by multiple prayers of said monastery constructed in the honor of God and his precious apostle Peter, prince of apostles, have established as fixed and order to be firmly observed that all rights which now and up to now were conferred on said monastery by our grandfathers, its true founders, and firmly approved and observed by my father lord Leszek, duke of Krakow and Sudomiria, should remain inviolate to that monastery eternally; especially that tribute, which is our language is called “strosa,” from the men, free as well as bound, living in the towns of that monastery by the lordship of Vislicia and Sudomiria we withdraw by our power, except from those who are bound to our right or that of some of our barons in perpetual servitude, such as lagenarii [bottlers?], fishers, cooks, chamberlains, and the others who serve at the courts of [the oft-mentioned] our monastery brought from the inhabitants of those towns for annual reward.  If indeed anyone should attempt to breach this later unsuitably out of malice and avarice, let him experience the wrath of god and the blessed apostle Peter, prince of apostles, here and in the future; amen.    And so that the authority of this our confirmation remain stable and undisturbed for all time we, together with my lady mother, have strengthened this written instruction and order it signed with the impression of our seal.  Enacted in the onethousand twohundred thirty fourth year from the incarnation of the lord in a meeting held at the villa of archbishop Luchan on the river Vartam with dukes Conrad and his son my brother Bolislaw and Henry and his son Henry, our barons, before us and our barons, among whom especially count Magnus Pakozlaw son of castellan Lassote of Krakow gave witness to this for the salvation of his soul:  [also] witnessing this, count Albert son of Stupote, castellan of Vizlicia, that all the towns of said monastery, free as well as bound, as was named and prescribed above, will always be free and immune from said payment of “strosa” ; Theodore palatine of Krakow, Mistug castellan of Osuetim, the counts Predzlaw, Zaia, Segota with his brothers, Andrew brother and Andrew son of Sulco with two sons, Slnilo and Martin; Peter Nasus; Wlodimir son of Zventozlai, Clemens older and younger and Sizema, Stredicus, Dirsicragius son of Iurete, Getko with his brother Vithga, Leonard son of Chotemir, Peter son of Albert, Pribizlaw son of Geron; Adalbert archdeacon and chancellor with his brothers, master Bogvzlao and count Andrew and also his sons; Matthew and Jacob, chaplains, and many others.

Historical context:

This is a confirmation of immunities previously granted to the peasants of Benedictine Tyniec abbey, as recorded by pope Gregory IX.  At the time of this confirmation, Boleslaw was seven, so Gremislava is the principal issuer.  I am grateful to Talia Zajac for the reference to this charter.

Talia Zajac has informed me that this charter is apparently a fourteenth-century forgery.
