Grant to Bertram de Crioyl, constable of Dover, of 640 marks a year at the Exchequer for the keeping of the said castle, so long as he have the keeping thereof, in addition to the castle guard rents belonging to the said castle, the issues of the town of Dover, and the toll of the same town which belongs to the king in like manner granted for the said custody. Mandate to Queen Eleanor and R. earl of Cornwall, to cause this sum to be delivered to him.Historical context:
When he left to deal with a rebellion in Gascony, Henry left the government of England in the hands of Eleanor, with the counsel of his brother, Richard of Cornwall.Scholarly notes:
