Biography

Rohais was a daughter of the elder Walter Giffard and the wife of Richard FitzGilbert, son of Count Gilbert of Brionne, Lord of Tonbridge and Clare, a "very large tenant-in chief in the Domesday book," according to Walter Frohlich who translated the letter. She and her husband had a son, Dom Richard of Bec, who became Abbot of Ely in 1100, and possibly a daughter, a nun M. the recipient of another letter from Anselm (ep.2.184).
