Overview
Biography
(See also Genealogical Table(s): 2.1, 2.2, 4.2.)
Salomea was the daughter of Gremislava of Lutsk and Lezek, duke of Little Poland. She was engaged at three to Coloman/Kálmán of Hungary, six-year old [second] son of Andrew II of Hungary and Gertrude of Merania. Coloman was prince of Galicia/Halych in 1214, king from 1215 or 1216 (though he did not rule there after 1219), and duke of Slavonia from 1226 to his death. Salomea retained the title of queen of Galicia through her life though, widowed in 1241, she became a Poor Clare in 1245. She founded a monastery in Zawichost, but threatened by Mongol invasion, the women of the monastery moved to Skala where she died in 1268. She was beatified in 1672 by pope Clement X.
